Workflow Documents 1.0.0

Workflow Documents is here: design invoices, packing slips and your own documents in HTML, CSS and Liquid, and generate them as PDFs from Shopify Flow. This first release includes everything you need to design, generate and find your documents.

Generate PDFs from Flow

  • The Generate document action renders a template for the order, product or customer of your workflow and returns a download link (valid for 7 days), the file name and the size. See Set up the Generate document action in Shopify Flow.
  • Pass the link to the next step, for example to email an invoice when an order is paid. See Example workflows.

Your own templates

  • Start from an invoice, a packing slip, a product data sheet, a customer summary or a blank page. See Create your first template.
  • Edit HTML and CSS with a live preview next to the code, using your latest order, a specific one or sample data, and open the real PDF before you save. See The template editor.
  • Print order, product and customer data with Liquid, and format amounts with the money and percent filters. See Template variables and Liquid.
  • Choose paper size, orientation, margin and a file name pattern per template. See Paper size, margins and file name.

Branding

  • Set your logo, colors, fonts and company details once, and every template uses them. Pick a built-in font, a Google font or upload your own font files, and override colors and fonts for a single template. See Branding your documents.

Languages

  • Write a template in several languages, each with its own HTML and file name. The document is rendered in the customer's language, or in the one you set on the action. See Templates in several languages.

See everything

  • The document history lists every generated document with its status, source and size, and stored PDFs can be downloaded again. See Document history and downloads.
  • Email alerts for plan usage and for an elevated failure rate.

For developers

  • A REST API and an MCP server to manage templates and generate documents from your own code or an AI agent. See Developer API and MCP.
